The NY Jets opened the 2011-2012 NFL regular season by hosting the Dallas Cowboys. They were certainly expected to win but what they didn’t expect was Dallas to be up by 14 points in the 4th quarter. This was a problem, until the Jets decided to step it up a notch.
Plaxico Burress scored his first touchdown as a New York Jet when Sanchez perfectly through the ball towards the left side of the end zone which then was caught by Burress as he spun then was brought down, but the ball clearly did enter the end zone. The score was 24-17 Dallas after the Jets added the one point field goal.
McKnight, who was clearly the hidden hero of the night, somehow blocked the 4th down punt of Dallas and the ball was then picked up by Isaiah Trufont, who ran it home for the touchdown. Nick Folk added the one point field goal to tie the game. Then, the perfect ending to the already unbelievable game occurred.
Nick Folk stepped up to take what could potentially be the game winning field goal for the Jets with just over a minute remaining, and it was 50 yards away.
The Jets number stepped up, and placed the ball in between the two gigantic yellow poles to give the Jets the 27-24 victory, capping a miracle comeback on a day where NY required that type of victory.
Ten years ago of that day, was September 11, 2001, which was the day the Twin Towers were attacked, and many lives we lost. It was a tragic day and ten years later, all of New York remembered their loved ones.
The NY Jets were asked to play their season opener on this historic ten year anniversary of September 11. They were down 14 in the 4th, and Dallas never lost a game while being up by 14 plus points throughout their history, ever. In fact, their record was 246-0-1 in that situation. However, at the end of the night, their record became 246-1-1 on a day where victory was a must for the home side.
Dallas played a very decent defensive as well as offensive game. Even though they were in an upbeat situation, up 14 in the 4th which is a situation they never dropped a game before, their opponents had the entire state of New York and most of America cheering them on.
The players were being pumped up by the crowd, their coaches, and the beautiful scenery around the stadium. They simply couldn’t allow Dallas to stay undefeated in that situation, especially on the ten year anniversary of 9-11. The Jets fixed their mistakes late in the 4th and won the game. It was truly a fairy tale, cardiac kid comeback.
It is a game that will never, ever be forgotten by either team. Both the Jets and Cowboys played their part in a historic game on a historic day. If this is just a taste of what’s to come this season, then everyone better buckle up and enjoy the adrenaline rushing ride.
The NFL season has started off with a huge blast. Various Teams that we thought were championship contenders, turned out to be pretenders. The most impressive team to me was the defending Super Bowl champs The Green Bay Packers. The Green Bay Packers offense looked scary, and the defense looks like it may be the most opportunistic defense in the entire NFL. The Baltimore Ravens ran right through their biggest rivals The Pittsburg Steelers. A lot of people are making a huge deal about the age of the players on the Steelers defense, but it was only one game and I expect the boys from Pittsburg to have a great season. I was very disappointed in The Kansas City Chiefs and they lackluster play during their game against The Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs on both sides of the ball looked uninterested, and confused. The Chiefs gave up 42 points to a team that hasn’t made any noise in the AFC since I was ten. The Buffalo Bills may not make the playoff this year, but they have the folks in upstate New York highly excited.
Carolina Panthers starting quarterback Cameron Newton threw for over 400 yards against The Arizona Cardinals. Cam Newton broke legendary quarterback Peyton Manning record of most passing yards by a rookie on opening day. Cam Newton has the Carolina faithful happy because he has won over his teammates and the city with his impressive play this past Sunday. Tom Brady had a brilliant game last night against the sorry Miami Dolphins. Tom Brady racked up over 500 yards passing which is a Monday Night Football record. I was very impressed by The Oakland Raiders last night against The Denver Broncos because The Raiders are slowly starting to change the culture of their football team. Denver Broncos please don’t start Tim Tebow because he is not ready. The Broncos coaching staff should construct special packages where Tim Tebow can help the offense with his special play making ability.
The New York Jets were able to start the season off with a win against The Dallas Cowboys. Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Tony Romo has failed the Cowboys once again, by not using proper judgment during crucial parts of the game. A lot of the media praises Tony Romo all the time, but he doesn’t deserve the praise. In six years as a Cowboy starter, Tony Romo has only won one playoff game, and has set back the Cowboy franchise for years to come.
